Freeze Weekly Update 01/09-01/10

Midget

18U UA

Have you ever had one of those days when nothing goes right? Well double it and you have the 18U's weekend. Traveling to Arlington to take on the Cap's Academy on Saturday night, the Freeze were sluggish from the start. Passes ended up in different zip codes, shots were "just a bit outside."  The area in front of the Freeze net is usually  a place of pain and suffering for opposing players, but this seemed to have no affect on the Caps Academy.  On this night, several Caps players were observed pitching tents, toasting Smores, and singing camp songs. The end result was a 4-4 tie that felt very much like a loss.

After coughing up Saturday night's hairball, the Freeze traveled to Reston looking forward to a clean sheet of ice and a fresh start, but then the Zamboni coughed up a hairball of its own. Dumping a Frosty the Snowman sized pile of slush in the face off circle and cutting a Grand Canyon like gouge in the ice. To quote Wayne and Garth, "Game Off". The 18U's will repent and offer sacrifices to the hockey gods in hopes of returning to their good graces.

16U LA

On Saturday,  the 16 U team hosted a very scrappy game against the Easton Ice Hawks. The Freeze dominated the game and finished with a 7-1 win.

On Sunday, the boys traveled to Bowie to play the Bruins. The Freeze had 47 shots on goal against the Bruin's 16, but it was a close game. The Freeze got the win with a final score of 2-1.

The 16U Team is still undefeated in league play.

Bantam

14U LA

The boys of 14U LA were happy to be back on the ice after the holiday break. The team wishes all Freeze players and their families a Happy New Year. The team played against Ashburn and the Loudoun Knights this weekend. Special shout out to #75, Brad Cupples for his phenomenal hat trick Sunday and also to #7, Vincent Campbell, for a well-deserved Playmaker. Congrats on these special achievements!

14U B

The team was excited to get back on the ice after a few weeks off. We hit the ice Saturday evening against Navy Gold and snagged a win 6-3.

Sunday proved to be a little harder to win, but we took the tie against Bowie and are looking forward to playing them later in February!

Pee Wee

12U LA

The PW team was anxious to get back on the ice after a long Christmas break. On Saturday, we traveled down to Ashburn to face the number 1 team, the Xtreme. Freeze struck first with a goal. The Xtreme quickly answered back. Freeze continued scoring first with Ashburn having to keep up until the final goals when Xtreme finally took the lead. The PW team did not want to lose so they were able to tie it up late in the 3rd. Final Score was 5-5. The PW team is ready to win the next matchup!

On Sunday, the PW team hosted an EJEPL game against the Montgomery Blue Devils UA team. The PW team was ready to dominate the game. The team started strong with 4 goals in the first two periods with Montgomery scoring at 14.8 left in the second period. Freeze came back and scored a 5th goal in the 3rd. The first and last goals of the game for Frederick were short-handed!

Squirt

10U AA

On Sunday the 10U AA team had a double-header at home. In the first game, the Freeze took on the Reston Raiders. From the puck drop it was a fast paced, back and forth game. The Freeze found the back of the net first, with the first period ending in a 2-2 tie. The Freeze continued to dominate the ice with a scoring streak, allowing only one additional Raiders goal. Scoring was led by #6, Eli Grosh, securing a hat trick with three other players finding the back of the net, for a Freeze win with a final score of 7-3.

The Freeze took on a very Strong Caps Academy Sunday evening. This game proved to be an uphill battle for the Freeze. Unfortunately, the Freeze was never able to gain control of the game and fell to the Caps Academy.

10U LA

The Freeze played their first league game after the New Year at home against Capitals Academy. The team started out with a quick goal in the first to get a 1-0 lead, with a few more close chances in the period. Then the Capitals Academy came back hard in the second, outshooting the Freeze and getting the tying goal. It was a tense 3rd period, but ultimately the Freeze were able to score the game winning goal and hold on to win, 2-1, for an important 2 points in the league standings. Good job Freeze!

The Freeze traveled to Hagerstown for a non-league game on Sunday morning. The puck just seemed to be bouncing the wrong way for the Freeze and Hagerstown scored the first five goals of the game. The Freeze kept fighting and were able to avoid being shutout by scoring in the 3rd period. The game ended with a 5-1 defeat.

Mite

8U UA

The Mite UA team traveled to Hagerstown on Saturday for a matchup against the Bulldogs. Frederick came out on fire once again displaying excellent passing skills and communication. Nicholas Chung and Sebastian Northup tallied hat tricks, as the Freeze took home the victory 16-4. A post-game shootout provided great entertainment for both players and parents!

On Sunday, the Freeze hosted a mini jamboree with Delaware, Navy and Caps Academy. They carried their momentum from Saturday right into Sunday, as they faced Delaware in the first game. Accurate passing and positioning allowed eight different Freeze players to score, including hat tricks from Nicholas Chung and James Wilson. A great defensive effort spoiled every offensive attack by the opponent, with Evan Abromson earning the shutout in Frederick’s 13-0 win. In the second matchup of the day against Navy, the offensive explosion continued as multiple players again put the puck across the goal line. At the buzzer, it was Frederick for the win, 13-2. Seven Freeze players got on the scoreboard, with Nicholas Chung and Sebastian Northup each recording a hat trick. The last game of the day proved to be the most intense against the always tough Caps Academy, and it was a fight to the finish. Caps Academy struck first, but the Freeze answered right back. The team then traded goals until Frederick pulled ahead and held on for the 5-3 win. Shout out to the entire team for a strong offensive and defensive effort and consistent hustle throughout the entire game!

The team is back in action on Sunday when they host the Bowie Bruins at Skate Frederick

8U B

The Freeze Mite B team traveled to Hagerstown on Saturday for a meeting with the Bulldogs. The Freeze controlled the game from start to finish and capitalized on opportunities they created, as they continue to improve and move the puck. Cassidy Bresnei led the scoring with a hat trick on the way to a solid team win, 10-7.
