Freeze Weekly Update 1/2-1/3

Midget

18U

Returning from the holiday break, the Freeze faced a game with serious playoff implications. The Richmond Generals came to Frederick sporting an undefeated league record, their two ties coming against the Freeze down in Richmond in November. The winner would have the inside track to the regular season title. It was a back and forth affair until midway in the second when the Freeze scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead. The Freeze continued to push hard, but that 6th goal was illusive as they clanged the puck off iron three times. Those near misses loomed large in the third, as the Freeze took a series of undisciplined penalties, and missed defensive assignments. Richmond pushed the score to 5-4, before the Freeze was able to salt away the game with an empty net goal.

Bantam

14U UA

The UA U14 team enjoyed their time off and are ready to get back to the rink this week for practices and games. During the break, they hit the slopes to enjoy some snow tubing at Ski Liberty.

Squirt

10U AA

The 10U AA team played a fierce Kids vs Parents game on New Year's Eve! The competition was tough, but the kids pushed through and took down the parents and older siblings! On to league play, the AA team had a doubleheader on Sunday where they would take on Montgomery Gold and the always competitive STJ. The first game against Montgomery proved to be a drop down, drag out fight until the bitter end. Unfortunately, the Freeze fell to the Gold team 3-1. The team broke for lunch and headed over to the STJ Sports and Wellness Complex to face a very strong STJ team. The Freeze was never able to gain control of the game and took their second loss of the day.

Mite

8U UA

The Mite UA team traveled to the Ashburn Ice House Saturday for their last CBHL Jamboree of the season. They faced Reston in the first game of the day and controlled the puck the entire 24 minutes. When the buzzer sounded, it was the Freeze with the 8-1 win.

In the next game, Frederick faced Harford for the first time this season and once again, it was the Freeze taking control of the game with excellent puck handling and passing. Eight players got on the scoreboard, including hat tricks from Nicholas Chung and Sebastian Northup, and Evan Abromson got the shutout as Frederick took the victory with a score of 14-0.

The jamboree ended with a game against host Ashburn, and the Freeze remained unstoppable. Again, it was excellent puck control, coupled with accurate passing and constant communication that led to a 13-0 Freeze win. Shout out to Evan Abromson, who recorded his second shutout of the day, as well as Abe Camden and Nicholas Chung for securing hat tricks.

The team hosts a mini jamboree on Sunday at Skate Frederick with the Potomac Patriots, Delaware Ducks and Caps Academy.
