The Mite UA team traveled to The Gardens Ice House in Laurel for the 2020 Crabtown Showdown Tournament. On Sunday, they faced the MD Jr. Black Bears and this Frederick team could not be stopped. Eight Freeze players put goals past the netminder, with hat tricks from Abe Camden, Nicholas Chung, Bradley Lapato, Sebastian Northup and Brendan Waters, to take the victory 25-5.

On Monday, Frederick faced the Caps Academy in the first of two games of the day and the Freeze dominated the entire game. With a 4-2 lead heading into the 2nd period, Frederick exploded for 10 goals to down their opponent 14-3. Seven Freeze players scored, led by hat tricks from Nicholas Chung and Bradley Lapato. In the second game of the day, the Freeze went head to head with a very tough Reston team. After trading goals throughout the first period, the game was tied at 6-6. The Raiders proved too much for the Freeze in the 2nd period and they handed Frederick an 11-7 loss.

On Tuesday, the Freeze would get another crack at Reston in the championship game. Frederick struck first, but the Raiders came right back with 3 unanswered goals. The teams battled back and forth with Reston holding a 6-3 edge headed into the 2nd period. Frederick got within two goals of Reston but came up short when the final buzzer sounded, as it was the Raiders with the 9-6 victory.

The team heads to the Ashburn Ice House this weekend for a CBHL Jamboree on Saturday with Ashburn, Reston and Harford.

8U B

The theme this weekend for our Mite B team was perseverance in the face of adversity and challenge as they faced some strong teams in their group at the Crabtown Showdown Tournament. First up was Ashburn, and the Freeze fought off the onslaught of pressure, but found it difficult to get the puck out of the zone. Kirby Roebuck had a hat trick and we were able put some pressure back on them, but ultimately fell 15-6.

They kept their heads up after the defeat and tried to get some momentum to face Easton in the second game, but Easton came out swinging and won the first period 8-4. The Freeze refused to give up and retaliated in the 2nd period outscoring them 10-1 to claim their first victory of the tournament! Three Freeze players found the back of the net, with special recognition going to Kirby Roebuck for securing a hat trick.

The Freeze carried momentum into Monday against Howard and started with an early 4-2 lead. The Freeze couldn't hold onto their lead and finished the period tied, 4-4. Howard continued to press and held a one goal lead going into the final two shifts, when the Freeze were able to tie it, and in the last two minutes of the game nailed a game winner for the 8-7 win, with special recognition going to Kirby Roebuck for securing a hat trick.

This win secured the Freeze's spot in the championship game, with a rematch against Ashburn! The Mites played hard and even though they were only able to get two goals, they never gave up and fought together as a team from start to finish.  The B team took home a 2nd place tournament finish for all to be proud of!
