GIRLS TRY HOCKEY FOR FREE

On September 23 the Frederick Freeze will be hosting a Girls Try Hockey Free day at Skate Frederick. This event is open to any girls between the ages of 4-9 who have any interest in trying hockey, or who just want to have some fun on the ice, while wearing hockey equipment. There is no minimum hockey or skating experience required. Equipment will be provided or participants can also bring their own equipment. Equipment must be returned before they leave.

If you know of any girls between the ages of 4-9 who want to have some fun on the ice then please consider bringing them to our event on September 23. This event is part of the DMV Girls Try Hockey For Free Day and is a joint effort with the Washington Capitals, Monumental Sports Foundation and the PVAHA. The Freeze will be one of 16 clubs hosting this event on the same day.

The Freeze U14 AA Girls team will hit the ice right after the event with a 10:55am faceoff vs Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and our U12 Girls AA team will faceoff against Bowie at 2:10pm.

Follow the link below for registration details. Choose Frederick Freeze/Skate Frederick to attend the event hosted by the Frederick Freeze. You can also use this link to sign up with any one of the 15 other clubs events if you cannot attend the one in Frederick.

Girls hockey is now one of the fastest growing sports in MD. The Frederick Freeze have 2 Girls hockey teams currently competing at the 12U and 14U age levels and we are looking to expand for future seasons. Girls are not limited to Girls Only teams. They can also play on the traditional youth (coed) teams and that is recommended at the younger age levels.

Freeze Partners with Wolfe Hockey Development

The Frederick Freeze is thrilled to announce our exciting new partnership with Wolfe Hockey Development, the premier institution for goaltender development in the capital region. Pat St Clair, Freeze Hockey Director, expressed our enthusiasm for this collaboration, stating, "We are absolutely thrilled to join forces with Wolfe Hockey to enhance the instruction and development of our goaltenders. Wolfe Hockey's outstanding track record in goaltender development speaks volumes, and we are delighted to introduce this level of expertise to both the Freeze and our dedicated goaltenders.”

What sets Wolfe apart, beyond their stellar reputation in goaltender development, is the addition of our dedicated instructor, JT Ketzenberger. JT is a homegrown talent and a Freeze alum who began his youth hockey journey with the Fury in Frederick. He also spent his initial year of Juniors in our organization and graduated from Urbana High School, where he played under the guidance of our current Freeze U8 Coach Heusser. Pat St Clair is excited to bring JT back into the organization, saying, "Bringing JT into the fold feels like a full-circle moment, and I'm thrilled to have his homegrown talent contributing to our program. He's a Freeze kid who took his playing career to impressive heights, and now he can pass on his invaluable experience and instruction to our young goalies."

JT's journey continued as he advanced his Junior playing career with the Hampton Roads Whalers in the USPHL before transitioning to college play with the D-1 ACHA University of Rhode Island. For the past five years, he has been a dedicated instructor with Wolfe Hockey, further honing his skills and knowledge in goaltender development.

As part of this newly established partnership with Wolfe Hockey, our Frederick Freeze goaltenders can look forward to receiving weekly instruction during team practices throughout the season. Additionally, they will have access to specialized goalie clinics and mini-camps. This marks an exciting and promising time for all our Frederick Freeze goaltenders.

Congrats to Max Dabruzzo and Max Epstein

Two Frederick Freeze 18U UA players, Max Epstein and Max Dabruzzo, represented our organization at the 2023 JCC Maccabi Games in Israel, July 6th through July 13th.

The JCC Maccabi Games is a week-long Olympic-style sports competition that began in 1982. The event gives teens a chance to meet other Jewish youth while participating in the sports they love. This July saw more than 1,000 Jewish teens from around the world participating in athletic events.

Both players suited up for the J-Team, a tournament team consisting of players from New York, Connecticut, Florida, and of course, Maryland! The J-Team finished the round-robin 3-0-1 (10 points), defeating Team Vancouver 8-3, Team Israel 6-1, and Team Detroit 8-2, while tying Team Philadelphia 2-2.

Onto the medal round, where the J-Team entered as the #2 seed!

Up next, Team Toronto, who the J-Team quickly eliminated 5-0. With the win, a re-match with Team Philadelphia was on the horizon. This time, however, the J-Team showed no affection for the City of Brotherly Love, easily beating them 6-2. The gold medal game awaits! The J-Team would drop the puck against Team Montreal for the championship. Despite a valiant effort against the bigger, faster Team Montreal, the J-Team fell 3-0, capturing the silver medal!

Following the Maccabi Games, both Epstein and Dabruzzo embarked on an educational travel and volunteer experience that took them to all corners of Israel, including the cities of Haifa, Tiberius, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem!
