Freeze Weekly Update 02/06-02/07

Midget

18U UA

On Saturday the 18U's traveled to Arlington to take on the Caps Academy. The playoffs are just three weeks away and this was an important game, as the Caps looked to improve their position and the Freeze working towards sewing up the regular season title and the number one seed. The game was played at a playoff level. The checking was tight, the effort was high, and the goaltending was spectacular. The score was tied 0-0 when the Freeze finally broke midway through the third period. Not to be outdone, the Caps stormed back on the next shift and tied it at 1. Two minutes later, the Freeze scored again only to have the goal disallowed because of an inadvertent whistle. The boys took the call in stride and went about their business, getting a goal that counted with 3:05 left to play. They survived a few white knuckle moments to wrap up a hard fought 2-1 win.

The Freeze had a home game against Easton scheduled for Sunday, but between the snow and the Super Bowl, the Ice Hawks sent their regrets and cancelled.

16U LA

The 16U team continues their winning streak  On Sunday the Freeze went up against the Bowie Bruins. It was a physical game and the Freeze dominated scoring six unanswered goals, three of which were shorthanded. Ethan Truskowski earned the shut out!

Bantam

14U UA

This past weekend the 14U UA team headed to West Chester, PA for an EJEPL showcase. On Saturday we played the Roanoke Jr. Rail Yard Dawgs and that is always a close game. The Freeze scored off a face-off breaking the tie with 6 seconds left in the game. The Freeze came out on top 4 - 3. The Freeze played a penalty free game against the Rail Yard Dawgs. We then rested a bit and headed back to Ice Line to face off against Arrows Hockey (NY) . This was also a close game, but we fell to our opponent 4 - 2.

On Sunday, we headed to the rink in a snowstorm and played the Delco Phantoms and Mid-State Mustangs. Even though the Freeze lost both these games, they were all very close games. The refs put their whistles away on the last game.

Go Freeze!

Squirt

10U AA

The AA team had two very challenging games over the weekend against a very strong Montgomery Blue Devils Blue team. The Freeze fought hard for every shot, puck touch, and save, but try as they might there was no stopping the Blue Devils' momentum. The Freeze never gave up and fought hard until the final buzzer, but it just wasn't enough take down the Blue Devils. The Freeze finished their weekend with two CBHL losses.

10U LA

The Freeze had two canceled games this weekend so they used their home ice time on Sunday for a team scrimmage. It was a good opportunity to stretch out as a team on the ice and practice team play. The team had a productive snowy Sunday morning at home.

The team just wrapped up a 2 month (optional) at home 10k Puck Challenge! Congratulations to our first place tie - Michael Dye and Matt Rivera shooting over 16k pucks and Chase Kessler with over 10k pucks. They all won Pure Hockey gift cards for their wins, but everyone agreed it was more about getting out there shooting pucks and having fun! Congratulations to everyone who participated!

Mite

8U UA

The Mite UA team traveled to Ion for a jamboree on Saturday and the Freeze came away with five wins! First up was the Select team from Ashburn and Frederick handed them a 5-0 loss. Next up was Reston and the Freeze proved too much for the Raiders as they skated away with a 9-0 victory. After a quick break, the Freeze took the ice against host Loudoun and it was again Frederick with the win, 5-1. Potomac was next, but the Freeze continued their winning streak with an 11-0 victory over the Patriots. The final game was against the Jr. Black Bears and proved to be the closest matchup of the day! The Black Bears played the Freeze tough, but after trading goals, Frederick put two more away and edged them 3-1.

Congratulations to Evan Abromson with three shutouts and to the entire team for their excellent display of accurate passing, puck handling skills and constant communication with each other!

8U LA

The Mite B team only had one game this weekend against a very familiar opponent. The Mites hosted the Hagerstown Bulldogs in what became an offensive showdown. The Freeze won the shootout 18-9 with hat tricks being scored by Kirby Roebuck, Wesley Lapato, Andrew Biugos, Cameron Johnson and Peyton Greenup. Great job Mites!

Futures

The Futures were scheduled for a game against the Loudoun Knights this past weekend, but unfortunately the opponents had to cancel their trip to Skate Frederick. We decided to keep the ice time and had an inner scrimmage with each other and invited some new Futures, as well as a few Victory players to join in the fun. We don't believe a winner emerged, but if you ask each player I'm sure you will end up with two different results. In the end, we kept the theme of having fun with each other, which is exactly what we want for these players.
