Freeze Weekly Update 1/30-1/31

Midget

18U UA

On a snowy Sunday night, the Caps Academy came to Frederick to take on the Freeze. In addition to the Freeze, Skate Frederick is home to the Old Fat Bald Guys (OFBG) Hockey Club, which is regarded as one of the world's most famous men's leagues. In the OFBG it is not uncommon to play with a short bench and as their saying goes, "Eight skaters is not a bad thing as long as they are the right eight." The Caps Academy came with the "right eight." They made the Freeze work hard for every inch of the ice. In the end, the Freeze's fresher legs and depth proved the difference in a 4-1 win.

16U LA

The 16U team played a very exciting game on Sunday. They traveled to Ashburn to play their league rival. Both teams were 8-0  and were both vying to secure first place. The Freeze scored early and kept the lead throughout the game. They led by two goals going into the last five minutes. Ashburn pulled their goalie and scored to get within one. An empty netter with less than a minute to go, sealed the deal.

16U remains undefeated and is the sole team in first place in their division.

Bantam

14U UA

Saturday the UA U14 team had a busy day with two games against The Roanoke Jr. Rail Yard Dawgs at Skate Frederick. Both games were exciting. The first game was a victory with the Freeze winning 5 to 4. The boys dug in and came back from behind. The second game went in the Roanoke favor with them winning the game.

Looking forward to EJ games this weekend.

Squirt

10U AA

The AA team was originally scheduled for a very busy, action packed weekend of hockey with two away games and two home games. Unfortunately, due to the weather, the team was only able to play two of the four games over the weekend. Early Saturday morning brought the Freeze to the MedStar Complex to face the very strong Caps Academy. Despite the Freeze's best efforts, they could not gain control of the game and fell to the Caps Academy. There was just enough down time to rest their legs and eat a late breakfast before the team was off to face the Ashburn Xtreme, in Ashburn. Unfortunately, the Freeze would suffer their second loss of the weekend, served up by the Xtreme.

Bad weather rolled in Sunday morning, resulting in the two opposing teams to cancel their games against the AA team. The Freeze used their earlier ice slot of the day to hold a team practice.

Mite

8U UA

The UA team hosted Hagerstown on Saturday at Skate Frederick. The Freeze put on a display of excellent passing, communication and puck handling skills to dominate the entire game. Led by hat tricks from Abe Camden, Nicholas Chung and Bradley Lapato, the Freeze handed the Bulldogs a 24-4 loss.

On Sunday, the team braved the early morning snowstorm as they traveled to Reston for a matchup with both of the Raider Mite teams. The Reston 1 team proved to be no match for the Freeze, as Frederick jumped out to an early lead and skated away with a 18-0 win. Evan Abromson got the shutout, while Nicholas Chung and Johnny Smeraglia netted hat tricks for the Freeze. Next up was Reston 2 and it was again Frederick with the win, 12-1. Abe Camden, Nicholas Chung and Johnny Smeraglia led the scoring with hat tricks for the Freeze.

The team is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Ion for a jamboree with Loudoun, Potomac, Reston and Howard.
