Freeze Weekly Update 11/21-11/22

Midget

18U UA

The team hosted the Howard Huskies on Saturday night. Our players moved the puck up and down the ice with ease, and with smart passing they were able to cinch a 4-1 win.

16U LA

The 16U team traveled to Abingdon to play their first league game against the Harford North Stars. The Freeze scored first and finished with three more unanswered goals for the 4-0 win. Four different players netted the puck, with Gabe Wyant securing the shut-out.

Way to start the season boys!

Bantam

14U UA

The 14U UA team had a weekend full of hockey with three CBHL games. Saturday we took on the Montgomery 14U UA Gold team and came out on top. The final was 6 to 3. The Freeze played almost the entire game full strength, only a penalty came with 14 seconds left in the game. This win was a great team effort.

Sunday, the team had two games vs. Southern Maryland Sabres. Although we lost both games, Coach Sean said, " One big celebration was that today we had our entire team dressed! This has not happened since August 29th! It is a great feeling for everyone in warm ups and on the bench! This team continues to work hard and never give up."

Let's go Freeze!

14U LA

On Saturday, the LA Bantam boys headed down the road for a non-league game at the beautiful St. James arena to take on their Bantam UA team. It was a fast-paced game, where the Freeze outshot their opponent. The boys rolled the lines and some even tried out new positions. At the end of the third period, the Freeze were down by only one goal. With less than two minutes to spare, they made the daring move to pull the goalie. Unfortunately, their opponent jammed up the puck long enough to prevent a scoring opportunity. STJ took the win, 3-2. Unfortunately, the league game scheduled for Sunday was cancelled, but the boys will remain patient for a reschedule when the time comes. The boys wish all Freeze families a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

Pee Wee

12U LA

The LA team started their weekend down I-66 at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex, under a rainbow at the home of the Capitals. The team had some luck and within the first period, they scored five goals. The Freeze rallied to score two more goals in both the second and the third, with the Caps Academy scoring their lone goal with only 5.4 seconds left in the game. The Freeze came out victorious with a 9-1 win, making them 4-0 for CBHL play with only six goals against. Special recognition goes to Jackson Skaare for securing a playmaker.

On Sunday, we were welcomed back home to Frederick to face the Loudoun Knights, where luckily limited spectators were allowed. This made a much different atmosphere with the crowd cheering loudly for every save and every goal, a big change from Saturday's game when no spectators were allowed. The Freeze fought to keep the lead and came out with a 5-3 win. Special recognition goes to Jackson Powell for securing a hat trick.

This team continues to improve and bond together to make it an amazing team.

Squirt

10U AA

After a hiatus, the 10U AA team took the ice this weekend at Skate Frederick for a double header against the Southern Maryland Sabres. Saturday was a fast-paced game from the first puck drop! The Freeze skated hard and never gave up. Unfortunately, this was not enough, and they fell to SoMD 4-2.

Sunday morning the Freeze came out strong looking for revenge. With a scoreless first period, the Freeze continued their upward momentum trying to gain control of the game. The team skated hard and demonstrated great offense, defense and goal tending skills, but it was not enough to take down the Sabres and the Freeze fell 3-1.

Both games this weekend were competitive and hard fought. Recognition must go to the coaching staff. The AA team came back with little "rust on the blades." They are a disciplined and cohesive unit. Never surrender, never intimidated.

10U AA is going "Purple" in support of Epilepsy Awareness during the month of November. We are showing our support for Claire Elias (sister of Freeze player Chase Elias), who is affected by Epilepsy as part of her Angelman Syndrome.

10U LA

The Freeze went on the road in a non-league game against the Ashburn Selects on Saturday. They jumped to a quick lead, but Ashburn came back after each Freeze goal to tie the game at 3-3.  Then,  Ashburn got hot and put in a flurry of goals to build up a big lead. Ethan Wiater came up with a hat trick by the end of the game, but the Freeze ultimately lost 9-5.

The team was back home on Sunday for an intense, action-filled game against the Reston Raiders. The Freeze took a quick 2-0 lead ending the first period. Reston retaliated in the second, allowing in no goals and scoring two. Starting the third period with a 2-2 tie, there was tension in the air and the Freeze stepped it up to score, but Reston wasn’t having it and fought their way for another goal to bring the score to 3-3. With 1:46 left in the game, the Freeze whipped one in to win the game. Final score 4-3.

Mite

8U UA

The Mite UA team traveled to The St. James Wellness Complex to take on the STJ Blue team. Frederick jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but STJ answered right back with a goal of their own and held a 3-2 lead heading into the second half. Frederick scored to tie it up, but STJ pulled away to take the win by a score of 7-3.

The team is head to the Ashburn Ice House this weekend for the Congressional Cup Thanksgiving Classic Tournament, where they will take on the Caps Academy, Loudoun Knights and the SoMD Sabres.
