Freeze Weekly Update 11/28-11/29

Bantam

14U UA

The 14U UA team played in the local Silver Sticks tourney this weekend. They were a last minute add on. The team had a weekend of great games. Friday, we took on Howard Silver and came out on top 6 to 3 at Piney Orchard. We then traveled to the Columbia Rink and played Navy Elite and won 8 to 1.

Saturday evening, we traveled to The Gardens Ice House and played Tomorrows Ice and played a great game, winning 5 to 2.

Sunday we were back at Piney Orchard and played Montgomery LA Gold and won 7 to 1. These wins put us in the Championship game against Montgomery UA Blue, although we were hoping to bring the banner home, we came in second place and the game ended 3 to 1 not in our favor.

A great weekend of hockey and our team did a great job navigating all the new restrictions. Go Freeze!

Mite

8U UA

The Mite UA team participated in the Congressional Cup Thanksgiving Classic Tournament this weekend. On Friday, the team faced Caps Academy in Game 1 and quickly set the tone by scoring two goals in the opening minutes of the game. The Freeze held the lead the entire game, but there was no shortage of shots on our goal by the opponent. Thanks to outstanding goaltending, with over 30 saves, the Freeze captured their first win of the tournament, 5-2.

Game 2 was Saturday morning against the Loudoun Knights, but they proved to be no match for the Freeze. Led by hat tricks from both Nicholas Chung and Johnny Smeraglia, it was a 10-2 win for the boys in blue!

They faced the SoMD Sabres that afternoon and the Freeze were up 5-0 late in the second period, when our goaltender went down with a leg injury. While he recovered on the bench, the entire team rallied to protect the empty net until he returned in the third period. The Freeze won 7-0 to earn them a spot in the Championship game on Sunday.

The Freeze faced the Caps Academy again and this team was looking for payback. Caps Academy struck first, but Frederick answered back to tie it up. A second goal by the Freeze gave them a 2-1 lead, they fought hard to keep through the entire third period. Caps Academy pulled their goalie as the clock was winding down, but it wasn’t enough and when the buzzer sounded, it was a massive celebration on the ice for the Frederick Freeze, as they claimed the title of Congressional Cup Thanksgiving Classic Tournament Champions!

The coaches and parents could not be more proud of these boys for the perseverance, effort and resilience they displayed the entire weekend!

8U B

The Mite B team had to back out of a Thanksgiving tournament in Hershey, PA this weekend due to travel restrictions to the state of PA. Fortunately,  the team found a mini-jamboree on Saturday within our state and just as far away to play in!

We traveled to Easton, MD and got off to a slow start in the first game against Delaware. The teams traded goals at the outset, but could not keep up the pace and dropped the game 3-1.

The second game was against the host team, and starting again with several goals traded back and forth. The Freeze was able to ramp up the pace and pressure and came out on top, 7-5, with five different shooters finding the back of the net. The Freeze maintained the pace through the third game against Harford and solid goaltending with a shutout by Seamus Ball, and goal scoring led by Kirby Roebuck netting a hat trick, they came out on top 7-0!
