Freeze Weekly Update 11/7-11/8

Midget

18U UA

On Sunday, the 18U team traveled to Easton to face the Ice Hawks for the third time. The Freeze scored early in the first and continued scoring through the third by dominating the neutral and offensive zones. Our goaltender, John Hallman, stood tall between the pipes for a 6-0 shutout!

Bantam

14U UA

On Saturday afternoon the Freeze 14U UA team faced-off against our rivals from Montgomery, the 14U UA Blue team. The Freeze started slow, and we found ourselves down 4-0 at the end of the first period. The boys did not give up and dug in, and rallied in the second period to end the frame, 4-3. The third period was a nail-biter, and the game ended 4-4. This was the first CBHL game of the season for the Freeze, and was a great team effort!

On Sunday the Freeze returned to Skate Frederick - the World's Most Famous Arena on Riverbend Way - to face Team Philadelphia 14U Gold in EJEPL action. Team Philadelphia plays 14U AA in the DVHL, but the Freeze kept in close in the first period, ending the frame down 2-0. But the size and speed of Team Philadelphia proved too much, and the Freeze fell 9-1.

The Freeze return to Skate Frederick next weekend, with another EJEPL game versus Delco Phantoms, and a CBHL game versus Tri-City Eagles.

14U LA

The boys of Bantam LA took a break from the gorgeous weather outside to head indoors for two home games over the weekend. First, the Freeze faced off against an opponent they had recently seen last month, Bowie Bruins. During the first period, the Freeze dominated shots on goal despite being a 0-0 game at the end of the period. Moving right along into the second period is where the game was elevated. True teamwork gave the Freeze the first goal of the game. It was a short lived celebration because the Bruins wasted little time answering back with a goal of their own, 45 seconds later. The Freeze racked up the shots on goal and snuck in another goal, later on in the second period. Two additional goals within thirty seconds of the final period, gave the Freeze a win 4-1.

Sunday, the boys welcomed Montgomery White to Skate Frederick for a league game. It was shots, shots and more shots for everybody on the Freeze that evening. The Freeze dominated puck possession, zone entry and packed their patience to give them the win over Montgomery, 6-0. Congrats to Landon Bernard for another shutout. Keep up the hard work Freeze!

14U B

It was a whirlwind weekend with the 14U B team’s first local tournament. We got to play some amazing local teams, beating Tri-City Saturday and a nail bitter 7am game Sunday against Potomac. While we weren’t able to take home the championship, 2nd place for our fierce team was a sweet victory. A big thank you goes out to Coach Greg and Coach John who stepped up to coach when we were down.

Pee Wee

12U LA

This weekend, the Freeze traveled to Twin Ponds East in Harrisburg to take on the Capital City Vipers in hopes of defeating the team we lost to last week. The team had 19 shots on goal, but just couldn't get the puck past the goaltender. The Freeze fell 4-0.

On Sunday, fresh off a loss to the Vipers, the Freeze brought their A game to Skate Frederick against the Blue Devils. At the end of the first, the team led 2-0. The second period brought some good scoring opportunities.  Montgomery was able to score two goals as well as the Freeze scoring two goals. Starting the third period with a 4-2 lead, Freeze offense decided to kick up their scoring and scored four goals with Montgomery only scoring two more. The final score was 8-4, with the Freeze going 2-0 in league play this season.

Special recognition goes to Christian Swanson, earning a hat trick and a playmaker, and to Andrew Sinko for earning a hat trick. Way to go Boys!

Squirt

10U LA

The Freeze played a hard fought game on Sunday against Caps Academy at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex. The Freeze dominated the first period closing it out at 3-0. In the second period, Caps Academy showed their skills scoring three goals, with the Freeze also adding another goal to the board. With the Freeze leading 4-3 going into the third, the teams traded goals resulting an intense 7-7 tie. The Freeze was there to win, so with only 45 seconds left on the clock, the Freeze scored the winning goal, with a final score 8-7.

The entire Freeze team played hard while chasing the puck and defending the goal, with special recognition for hat tricks by Nathaniel Nadelberg and Miles Gleason.

Mite

8U UA

The Mite UA team hosted the Bowie Bruins at Skate Frederick on Sunday. The Freeze took charge immediately, jumping out to a quick lead for which they would retain the entire game. Leading 7-0 after the first 24 minutes of play, they continued their scoring blitz in the 2nd half to run away with the win, 14-3. Excellent communication and passing led to seven different Freeze players scoring, with Nicholas Chung, Bradley Lapato and James Wilson each netting hat tricks.

The team hosts the first CBHL jamboree of the season at Skate Frederick on Sunday, where they will face Ashburn, Howard and Reston.

8U B

The Mite B team participated in their first CBHL jamboree this weekend at Piney Orchard. With an all around show of dominance, they fought hard together to win all three games 10-0, 9-1 and 6-4. Peyton Greenup was in net and got the shutout in the first game. Abe Camden and Kirby Roebuck led the scoring with hat tricks, while other players had multiple goals on the day. Our mites host a mini-jamboree this Sunday.
