Freeze Weekly Update 11/09/19-11/10/19

U16 UA

Players from the Freeze U16 team volunteered to help with Try Hockey for Free  on Saturday, Nov. 9th at Skate Frederick. The U16 players helped the little players with their gear and skates, and then gave them attention on the ice to help ensure their experience was a positive one. Skate Frederick, along with 350 local associations across the country, hosted the event to encourage kids ages 4 to 9 to come try youth hockey. USA Hockey supplies participating associations with marketing resources and other support, and also partners with the National Hockey League and its member clubs to market Try Hockey For Free nationwide.

The rest of the weekend was not as friendly for the U16 team, as they dropped two tight league games to Tri-City 7-5 on Saturday, and to NOVA 4-2 on Sunday.

BANTAM LA

The Bantam LA team experienced their first weekend with two CBHL games. On Saturday, the Freeze traveled to The Gardens Ice House to face-off against the home Howard Huskies. The Huskies scored first, but it was all Freeze after that, and the visitors left Laurel with a 3-1 victory. Sunday brought the Freeze to Ashburn for a late afternoon contest against the Xtreme. Ashburn jumped out with the first three goals, and the first period ended with the visitors down 3-1. The Freeze were resilient and dominated play in the last two periods, but the Xtreme's fourth goal put them up by one, and they added the empty-netter to hand the Freeze the loss, 5-3.Next weekend, the team heads to the Garden State to drop the puck against the New Jersey Rockets.

BANTAM B

Bantam B hosted their first home league games over the weekend. The Freeze faced off against NAVY Saturday afternoon, coming out strong with quality shots on net. Goalie, Gabe Wyant scooped up 35 saves. Freeze finished strong defeating NAVY 4-1. Sean Velez picked up another hat trick.

Sunday, the tempo was a bit different from Saturday. During a rough and chippy game, the Freeze started by being down 3-1. Things started to change during the second period when the Freeze scored two additional goals. The Freeze were still down by one goal going into the third period. Then, Baltimore got a lucky break and ending up scoring a shorthanded goal, giving them a two goal advantage. The Freeze definitely had the advantage during the last few minutes of the period, due to Baltimore’s plentiful penalties. The Freeze ended up scoring two Power Play goals to tie the game, 5-5. Go Freeze!

PEE WEE LA

On Saturday, the Pee Wee LA team went to Leesburg to the new Ion International Training Center to have a Non-League match-up against the NForcers UA team. After the first period, the Freeze was up 2 – 0. The Freeze continued to dominate at the net throughout the second and third periods, securing a 10-2 Freeze win.

On Sunday, the Freeze had an away league game against Ashburn Xtreme. The Freeze jumped out to an early lead scoring 3 goals in the first period. During the second period, we continued the lead, scoring one more goal and ending the period 4-0. In the third period, Ashburn scored one goal. The Freeze won 4-1 in an overall competitive game.

PEE WEE B

The Pee Wee B boys played away on Saturday evening against Montgomery 12UB White. They battled well into the third period where they finally surrendered to a 3-2 loss at the final buzzer.

Sunday morning brought an early puck drop and a renewed determination to beat a strong Potomac team in a league game. Freeze found the back of the net in a 3-2 victory.

SQUIRT UA

This weekend saw the UA Squirts take on the Reston Raiders and the Northern Virginia Ice Dogs. The Freeze traveled to Reston, VA Saturday morning for their first game of the season against the Raiders. The boys did not disappoint with a dominating effort in all facets of the game. The defense stood tough, holding Reston to one goal. The Freeze pulled out an 11-1 win, with Jackson Powell securing a Hat Trick.

Sunday brought the Northern Virginia Ice Dogs to Skate Frederick for a rematch of the season’s earlier Freeze win in Alexandria. The difference this time was NoVA capitalizing on opportunities the game presented and the Freeze unable to find the back of the net. Frederick got down early and could not get any momentum to mount a comeback, resulting in a 9-1 loss for the Freeze.

SQUIRT LA

On Saturday the LA team traveled to Ashburn, VA for a league game. The Freeze came out strong, but despite their efforts fell to Ashburn 8-2.

Sunday, the Freeze traveled to Annapolis, MD to take on NAVY. The game started with two very competitive teams battling for the puck. Try as they might, the Freeze was never able to gain control of the game, resulting in a 9-1 loss.

The Squirt LA team is honoring friends and family during the month of November by taping their sticks purple, as November is Epilepsy Awareness month.

One very special girl affected by Epilepsy is Claire Elias, as part of her Angelman Syndrome. Let’s help the Elias Family and the Squirt LA team support this cause by taping your player’s stick purple for the month of November!

MITE A

The Mite LA team hosted their first CBHL Jamboree of the season and they came out ready to play! First up was NAVY 2 and after going down a goal, the team rallied and scored 11 unanswered goals, cruising to an 11-1 win. They faced Tri-City in game two and there was no stopping the Freeze. Mason Lampe and Nicholas Chung registered Hat Tricks and Joseph Keenan recorded the shutout in an 11-0 victory. Next up was the very strong Ashburn Xtreme, but the Freeze were not intimidated. After trading goals back and forth, the team found themselves down 4-3 as the clock was winding down. With 10 seconds left, on a breakaway run, the Freeze found the back of the net to end the game at a 4-4 tie. They carried the momentum of the day into their final game, where they defeated the Ice Dogs with a score of 4-1. Hats off to the defense for their outstanding play throughout all four games.

MITE B1

The B1 team traveled to Woodbridge on Saturday for their first CBHL jamboree at Prince William Ice Center. From the start they showed great teamwork and played a good defensive game against Reston, securing a 3-2 win. In the second game, they lost to their familiar, tough adversary the Potomac Patriots, but rallied quickly and impressively in the third game, with goalie Justin Smith saving every shot on goal by Ashburn for a 5-0 shutout. Victory remained out of reach in the final game against Metro, but our players were happy to come away with two good wins.

MITE B2

The B2 Team traveled to the beautiful St. James Sports Complex in Virginia over the weekend. The team played INCREDIBLY well on both offense and defense and came away with a huge 28-2 win over The St. James!
