Freeze Weekly Update 11/23/19-11/24/19

U16 UA

The 16U team traveled to the new Ion International Training Center in Leesburg on Saturday to play the newly formed NForcers in a non-league game. The Freeze came away with a 7-1 win.

On Sunday, the 16U's played a league game in Reston. Still down a few players due to injuries, the Freeze fell to the Raiders 6-3. They are still in the middle of the pack in the standings with the hopes of moving up once all of the players return healthy.

This weekend the team will compete in the Pittsburgh Thanksgiving Classic.

BANTAM LA

The Freeze Bantam LA team played a pair of CBHL games heading into the Thanksgiving break. On Saturday, the Freeze traveled to Bowie to face-off against the Bruins. The Freeze performance mimicked the cold, rainy Saturday - lethargic, slipshod, plodding - and the visitors fell to the hosts, 5-2.

Looking to bounce back like a superball won at an Ocean City boardwalk arcade, the Freeze made the trip to palatial Fort Dupont Ice Arena to battle the NoVA Ice Dogs. Finding the jump in their step they had lacked the previous day, the Freeze controlled the game, scoring twice at even strength, then netting the eventual game winning power play goal in the second period to secure the 3-2 victory.

The Freeze Bantam LA team is 3-2 in the CBHL standings as we approach Thanksgiving.

BANTAM B

This weekend, the boys had much to be thankful for. The boys picked up two wins over the weekend, starting with a non-league game against Ashburn, on Saturday evening. Goalie, Gabe Wyant, gobbled up a shut out. Freeze won 3-0. The boys carried the momentum into Sunday, for a league game versus Metro. At the end of the first period, it remained a scoreless game. Things changed quite a bit during a very exciting third period. Freeze scored two goals within a minute. With two minutes remaining, Metro took advantage of a lucky situation to put one on the boards for them. Freeze secured the victory 2-1.

SQUIRT LA

On Saturday the Squirt LA team hosted the Revolution in an EJEPL game. The Freeze came out strong on Saturday with tough defense, multiple breakaways and amazing goaltending by Vincent Shrader, securing his second shut out of the season. The team maintained control throughout the game with Chase Layer netting three goals, earning him a hat trick. The Freeze skated away with a 12-0 victory over the Revolution.

Sundays game proved to be very competitive, as the Freeze traveled to Cabin John to take on Montgomery. The first period ended with both teams tied 0-0. The second period began with Montgomery netting their first goal of the game and then scoring two more, to end the second period 3-0. Despite starting the third period down by three, the Freeze continued to play hard and fought their way back by netting three goals in the third. This was not enough to secure a victory and the Freeze fell to the Montgomery Blue Devils 4-3.

MITE LA

The Mite LA team traveled to Bowie Sunday evening for a mini jamboree hosted by the Bruins. With only 12 minute games, the Freeze knew they’d have to come out and strike quick, and that’s just what they did against Bowie. They netted a goal early in the game and held on for the 1-0 victory. Next up was Metro, who started the scoring with a few early goals. Frederick was only able to answer one of them and fell short, 3-1. The Freeze regrouped and came out strong in their first ever match up against Potomac, grabbing the early lead and never looking back. Taking the momentum of their 3-1 victory right into the final game against NoVA 2. Again, the Freeze jumped out to an early lead and just narrowly missed out on the shutout win when the Ice Dogs scored as the clock was winding down. Mason Lampe led the scoring effort with a hat trick, as Frederick prevailed 4-1.

MITE B1

This Saturday, our B1 mites played non-league games against Hagerstown’s two B teams. After an impressive 3-0 win to start, they had their work cut out for them in the second game. Despite lots of excellent passing and many shots on goal, they couldn’t quite get ahead of their opponents and finished with a close score of 3-4. Both were exciting and fun games to watch and the boys really demonstrated their improving skills.

MITE B2

The Mite B2 team had a BUSY weekend! They played two games against Hagerstown on Saturday in Hagerstown (including a shut out!). Then, the team turned around and went to Bowie Sunday and played another four games in their first CBHL Jamboree against Metro, Southern Maryland, Reston, and Potomac. It was an unbelievable weekend for the Mite B2 team, their heart and determination are amazing!

Congratulations to all the teams that had games & tournaments over the weekend! Keep up the great work and good luck in this weeks games!
