Freeze Weekly Update

U16 UA

The 16U team played two league games this weekend. They were home Saturday against the 1st place Hampton Roads Whalers. It was a hard fought game, but the Freeze fell short with a 5 - 3 loss.

On Sunday, they traveled to Haymarket to play Piedmont. The Freeze made the game very frustrating for the Predators, handing them a 5 - 0 loss. Special recognition goes to Alex Nalepa for the shut out.

BANTAM LA

The Bantam LA team came out of the Thanksgiving break with two objectives. One, avenge an early season non-league loss, and two, win a CBHL game against the first place team.

On Saturday, the Freeze traveled to Arlington, VA, to face-off against the Capitals Academy Bantam LA team. In early October, Caps Academy had beaten the Freeze, 4-3. But two months makes a difference, and this time, the Freeze got goals from four different players and were stingy on defense, emerging with a 4-0 win.

On Sunday, the Freeze traveled back down Interstate 270 for a date with the division-leading Reston Raiders. The Raiders had given up only 16 goals in 11 CBHL games, so scoring surely would be at a premium. Only someone forgot to tell the Freeze, who again spread the wealth with four goals from four different players, added an all around defensive effort that stymied the Raiders, and the Freeze left SkateQuest with a 4-0 victory.

PEE WEE LA

After having a break over Thanksgiving, the team played two league games this past weekend. Saturday we traveled to play Montgomery and won 11 - 1. Katie McGee and Nolan Holden both had hat tricks.

On Sunday, we traveled to Prince William Ice Center to play Potomac. This was a competitive game until the end. Potomac came out early and scored two goals in the first period. Frederick answered back with two goals in the second period, to end the period 2 - 2. With a few back and forth goals in the third, Potomac kept the lead until the end of the period, where we came back with three goals to win 6 - 5. Special recognition goes to Tristan Golden having for a hat trick.

PEE WEE B

The Pee Wee B team was on the road for two games this weekend. On Saturday, they faced Montgomery Gold and came up short with a 3- 2 loss.

The Freeze showed up on Sunday. Determined to right the ship and cruised to a 3 - 0 shutout against NoVA. Special recognition goes to David Kinnamon for the shutout.

SQUIRT UA

The weekend saw the UA Squirts fall to the Richmond Generals and tie the Metro Maple Leafs. Saturday brought the Richmond Generals into Frederick for the first game between the two teams this season. Frederick’s early lead fell in a scoreless third period, as the Generals scored three unanswered goals in a 5 - 4 loss.

Early Sunday, the Freeze traveled to Piney Orchard for a rematch with a tough Metro squad. Falling behind after a scoreless first period, the Freeze clawed back into the game. Led by Dylan Desjarlais’ hat trick, the Freeze tied the Leafs 3 - 3 as time expired.

SQUIRT LA

Last Saturday, the LA team traveled to Ashburn to face off against the XTreme, in the hopes of redeeming themselves from last month's loss. The game started out with the Freeze netting the first goal only seconds in. The first period ended 1-1. As the second period began, Ashburn came out with something to prove, netting two goals to the Freeze’s one. The third period proved to be an all out battle between the two teams with multiple breakaways, tough defense, and great goaltending. The Freeze managed to come back, netting two more goals to Ashburn's one, ending the CBHL game in a 4-4 tie. In addition to this being a CBHL game, Ashburn needed to play one more EJEPL game, throwing us into over time. The Freeze netted the game winning goal making this a 5-4 victory!

On Sunday ,the Freeze played the Delco Phantoms in their last EJEPL game of the season. The team knew this would be a tough game as the two teams have met twice before. The Phantoms took control of the first half of the first period, by netting three goals within seconds of each other. Fortunately, this lit a fire under the Freeze and they netted two goals, ending the first period 3-2. The second period began with the Phantoms scoring their fourth goal only seconds in the game. The Freeze answered back with three minutes left in the period, ending the second 4-3. The third period began with fierce competition and it was a fight until the very end. The Freeze just could not hold on in the third period, ending the game in a 6 - 4 loss. Congratulations to the Squirt LA team for competing in their first EJEPL season!

SQUIRT B

On Saturday, the Squirt B team faced-off for the first time this season against the Potomac Patriots. The Patriots jumped to an early 0-6 lead by the end of the first period, despite incredibly strong defensive efforts from the entire Freeze team at our home rink. The Freeze hit their stride as the second period began, quickly scoring two goals. With the Patriots finding the net just once, the Freeze won the second period 2-1. The Freeze played their hearts out, but ultimately dropped a hard fought game to Potomac, 8 - 2.

On Sunday, the B team were looking to avenge an 8 - 0 loss against Capitals Academy on October 27. The Freeze fared much better this time. The Caps scored within the first minutes of play, but the Freeze held strong and matched the Caps first goal to end the period 1-1. The Freeze turned up the heat in Skate Frederick and took the lead in the second period, to the surprise of the Caps crowd and league-leading team. The Freeze stayed strong, but shots on goal ultimately impacted the team, and Frederick lost a hard fought game to Capitals Academy, 4 - 2.

MITE LA

The Mite LA team traveled to the outdoor rink of Chevy Chase on Saturday to play two games Winter Classic style! It was a balmy 38 degrees at game time and the kids were loving it! Chevy Chase bested the Freeze in game one by a score of 9-5, but Frederick battled back in game two, as five different team members found the back of the net for a 7-5 win.

On Sunday, the team traveled to Bowie for what turned out to be a challenging jamboree. Frederick faced Howard 1 in the first game and the teams battled to a 2 - 2 tie. Up next was Bowie and it proved to be yet another battle. After 24 minutes, the game ended with the teams deadlocked at 4 - 4. After a short break, the Freeze came out ready to play and topped Howard 2 by a score of 2 - 0. In the final game, it was another battle to the finish, this time against the Potomac Patriots. The Freeze came up a bit short, falling 3-2.

MITE B1

On Saturday, the B1 team traveled to Piney Orchard, where they faced off against NoVA, Reston, Potomac and Metro.

 MITE B2

Mite B2 had a busy weekend, starting out with two wins at Chevy Chase on Saturday. They then traveled to Reston for another exciting CBHL Jamboree where they played stronger than ever!
