Freeze Weekly Update

U16 UA

The 16 U team played Richmond at home for a league game on Saturday and a non-league game on Sunday. Unfortunately, they lost both games. Next weekend they will travel to Haymarket to play the Piedmont Predators again.

BANTAM LA

In CBHL action, the Freeze Bantam LA team traveled to Rockville on Saturday for an evening contest with Montgomery 14U Blue. The Blue Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Freeze fought back, scoring late in the second period and early in the third period to make it 3-2, and seize the momentum. Within the last five minutes, however, a fluky goal turned the tide in the Blue Devils favor, and they would score three more times to win 7-2.

Next Saturday, the Freeze will travel to Voorhees, NJ, to face-off against the Flyers Youth 14U A in non-league action, then finally return home after thirteen straight road games to play CBHL leader Reston on Sunday.

BANTAM B

Bantam B had two league games over the weekend. Saturday the boys faced off against Chevy Chase at home. Unfortunately, the Freeze lost 3-0. Sunday, the boys came out ready to play. They headed down to Piney Orchard to take on Metro. The boys moved the puck, passed the puck and outshot their opponent. Freeze ended with the win, 5-2.

PEE WEE B

In front of a hometown crowd, the Freeze Pee Wee B boys defeated NoVA 12UB Red Saturday, and then hit the road for a late afternoon game Sunday at the Laurel Ice Gardens against NoVA 12 UB Blue. In a stellar display of passing, shooting, scoring, defending and goaltending, The Freeze scored 10 goals to win midway through the third period. Seth Ogden had a hat trick, Ty Yuhas had a hat trick/ playmaker and Ian Higgins earned the 10-0 shutout.

SQUIRT UA

This weekend saw the UA Squirts run the table on the Montgomery Blue Devils. Before Saturday’s game, members of the team, coaches, and family participated in the Wreath Laying at Arlington National Cemetery. The Freeze then proceeded to roll over the hapless Blue Devils Gold Team, 10-0. Jackson Powell and Jacob Koennel each tallied hat tricks. Sunday brought the Freeze to Cabin John and with them, a 6-3 win over the Montgomery Blue Team.

Special notice must be given to the Freeze goalies. Sunday marked the return of Eric Metzler between the pipes after suffering a broken foot early in the season. Metzler had not lost a step and stymied the Blue Devil offense. Hats must be raised and heads bowed to Alex Birzak. This young man stepped up to the goaltending duties without complaint and a never say die attitude.

SQUIRT LA

This weekend the LA team played two CBHL games. On Saturday, they faced the SoMD Sabres. The Freeze knew they would need to come out strong, as they have fallen twice before to the Sabres. The Freeze did not disappoint and fought to the very end. The Sabres scored the first and only goal in the first period. The second period proved to be just as competitive as the first, ending the second period scoreless for both teams. Try as they may, the Freeze could not hold on and fell to the Sabres 4-1.

On Sunday, the LA team played Montgomery at home. Piggybacking off of Saturdays momentum, the Freeze netted their first goal only 17 seconds into the game! The Freeze continued to maintain control of the first period, 2-0 over Montgomery. The second period began with tough defense, multiple shots on goal and great goaltending ending the second tied, 4-4. Unfortunately for the Freeze, they just could not hold on in the third period. Netting only one goal to Montgomery's three. The Freeze took a 7-5 loss to Montgomery.

SQUIRT B

Squirt B had two games scheduled for this weekend, but Saturday’s poor weather conditions affected the game at Chevy Chase. The Squirts went up 1-0 quick against CC, but the skies opened up and the game was a washout. This game will be rescheduled for a later date when the blistering cold will be more painful than the 50-degree rain. Squirt B headed down to Baltimore for a non-league game against the Stars on Sunday. Baltimore played the Squirts strong through the first period, but the Freeze turned up the heat the second period. The game ended 5-1.

MITE LA

The Mite LA team traveled to Bowie Sunday morning for a CBHL Jamboree and it was evident they came to play, as they left the ice with four wins! First up was Southern Maryland and it was a battle to the finish, with Frederick sliding by the Sabres 2-1. They faced NAVY in game two and everyone brought their puck passing skills, which allowed six different players to score, including hat tricks by Nicholas Chung, Mason Lampe and Jay Vivian. The end result was a 13-1 win. Those passing skills did not stop! Game three against Tri-City was much of the same, which allowed Julian Di Iorio and Jay Vivian to secure hat tricks and the Freeze to secure the win 10-0. Last up was the always tough, Ashburn Xtreme, but our team did not let up! After going toe to toe for most of the game and the Freeze up by one goal at 2-1, our guys lit up the ice for three unanswered goals and skated to a 5-1 victory!

The team is hosting a jamboree at Skate Frederick this weekend, where they will face Southern Maryland, Chevy Chase and Howard.

MITE B1

On Saturday, the Mite B1 team traveled to Alexandria, VA for a CBHL jamboree.

MITE B2

The Mite B2 team had an exciting CBHL Jamboree on Saturday in Piney Orchard. They played extremely well together and walked away with only 1 loss out of 4 games! We are so proud of their continued improvement!!

Congratulations to all the teams that had games & tournaments over the weekend. Keep up the great work & good luck in this weeks games!
