They are also leading the Freeze organization, as well as the CBHL, in donations for the Score for St. Jude fundraiser with $1,475 raised.
BANTAM LA
On Saturday, the Freeze Bantam LA team kicked-off 2020 by traveling up 95 to Harford for a date with the North Stars. The Freeze took control early, scoring just 29 seconds into the game, then out-shooting Harford the rest of the way, 34-14, en-route to a 5-1 victory.
Sunday brought the Freeze back home to Skate Frederick for a re-match with the Howard Huskies. The Huskies were looking to avenge a CBHL loss from early November. The Freeze struck first, but it was all Howard thereafter, as the Skating Dogs tallied the next five goals to cruise to a 5-2 victory.
At the midpoint of the CBHL schedule, the Freeze sit at 6-4, with their next ten non-tournament games to determine the league standings.
BANTAM B
The boys were back in action after a peaceful holiday break on Sunday. They headed down to Piney Orchard for a league contest against Metro. The boys were on fire in the first period, scoring in the first 30 seconds of the game. They answered with two more goals, two minutes apart, also in the first period. Metro took a time out immediately following the three goals. The intensity picked up along with the speed shortly after. Ultimately, the Freeze dominated on the ice, by out shooting their opponent and working together. Freeze ended with the win, 6-2, a great way to start off the new year! Great teamwork boys!
PEE WEE LA
This past weekend the team played league games on home ice both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, we hosted Potomac. This was a competitive match-up until the end. Potomac scored early in the 1st period and then throughout the game it was back and forth goals. The game ended in a 4-4 tie.
Sunday, we hosted Ashburn. The Freeze had the lead throughout the game, leading 4-0 going into the 3rd period. Ashburn and the Freeze each scored a goal in the 3rd period with the Freeze winning 5-1.
PEE WEE B
The Pee Wee B team was still flying high from their tournament win in Hershey when they entered this weekend’s home game against NoVA 12UB Blue. Special recognition goes to Ty Yuhas for securing a hat trick. The Freeze skated to a 9-2 victory.
On Sunday, the boys met up with a quick and skillful Montgomery 12UB Blue team in Cabin John. Montgomery handed Pee Wee B their first loss of the calendar year in a 5-2 battle.
SQUIRT UA
After a Holiday break the UA Squirts traveled to Bowie Sunday to take on the Bowie Bruins. The Freeze jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the end of the 1st period. When the final buzzer sounded, it was a 9-4 score that saw 4 different Freeze players each find the back of the net twice.
SQUIRT LA
On Saturday, the Squirt LA team played the Hagerstown Bulldogs on home ice. From the puck drop, this game was a fight to the very end. The Freeze battled through the first period, with the Bulldogs scoring with only nine seconds left. The second period began with even more momentum than the first. The Bulldogs netted their second goal only minutes in. The Freeze answered back a few minutes later with their first goal, ending the second period down, 3-1. In the third and final period, the Freeze came back strong, netting the first goal, shortening the lead 3-2. Despite the tough defense, multiple breakaways, and awesome goal tending, the Freeze fell to the Bulldogs 6-2.
SQUIRT B
Squirt B rushed into the New Year with ferocity. Sitting just around .500, the team knew that every point mattered moving forward. First up was a home game against CBHL rival Bowie. The game was an excellent exhibition of youth hockey, with speed, solid passing and great goaltending on each team. At the end of the day, Freeze goalie Dom Studlo was flawless with 35 saves, outlasting the Bowie goaltender to secure a 1-0 victory for his team.
On Sunday, the Freeze faced the Reston Raiders, who sit near the top of the CBHL standings. Still recovering from the previous day’s battle against Bowie, the Freeze came out slow finding themselves down 0-2 at the end of the first. After a rousing speech by Head Coach Ball, the players picked up their feet and started winning each puck battle, one by one. Three unanswered goals made the difference with the Freeze ending up victorious by a score of 3-2.
MITE LA
The Mite LA team traveled to Medstar Capitals Iceplex the day after Christmas for a holiday jamboree. First up was Howard and the Freeze came out ready to skate, earning a 4-1 victory. Next up was NAVY, who jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Frederick turned up the heat, battling back to even the game, ending it at a 2-2 deadlock. In the final game, they faced Caps Academy White. Goals were traded evenly throughout the first half of the game, but then Caps Academy pulled away for the 6-2 victory. The first weekend of the new year brought the team to Hershey on Saturday for a matchup against Harford in the Rink of Dreams at Giant Center. The Freeze were on fire, with Nicholas Chung, Mason Lampe and Jay Vivian all scoring hat tricks in the 12-8 victory. On Sunday, the Freeze headed to the Naval Academy for a CBHL Jamboree. They faced NAVY in game 1, where Nicholas Chung and Julian Di Iorio led the scoring with hat tricks in the team’s 10-0 win. Next up was a hard fought match against the NoVA Ice Dogs. Frederick fell behind 2-0 before they found the net, but they came up short with a 3-1 loss. Game 3 brought the ever tough Bowie. Both teams fought hard to a 1-1 tie. The last game of the day was against Ashburn, and although the team put many shots on net, the Freeze fell with a 6-0 loss.
MITE B1
It was a busy weekend for the Mite B1 team. Saturday saw them at Chevy Chase’s beautiful outside rink before sunrise, where they skated to an 8-7 victory over the home team and had a lot of fun. On Sunday, they hosted a mini jamboree at Skate Frederick and played some great hockey against their B2 friends, as well as Metro and Bowie.
