Freeze Weekly Update

U16 UA 

On Saturday the 16U team faced rival Montgomery in a physical bout at home. After a scoreless first period, the team rallied to get four unanswered goals.

On Sunday, they traveled as the home team to Ft DuPont to play NoVA. With a goal in each period, including an empty netter at the end, the 16U’s came away with a 3-0 win.

Special recognition goes to goalie, Brent Moyer, was on fire this weekend getting 2 shut-outs! 

The team also continues to lead the CBHL in the St Jude Fundraiser.

PEE WEE LA

On Saturday, the Freeze traveled to Bowie Ice Arena for a non-league scrimmage against the Bowie 12UA team. After the first period, it was Bowie 1-0. The Freeze answered back early in the second period with two goals, but then Bowie turned around and scored three goals, ending the period 4 – 2 (Bowie). In the third, the Freeze scored one more goal, ending the game down 4-3.  

Sunday, we had a league game at home against Ashburn. In the first period, Mason Macera had a hat trick, scoring the first three goals of the game. The first period ended 3-1. During the second period, Ashburn tied it up 3-3. In the final period, we took back the lead scoring four more goals, winning 7-3. 

PEE WEE B

The sun may still have been asleep on Sunday morning when the Pee Wee B team arrived at the Hagerstown Ice Complex, but the boys were wide awake. A collective effort of six goals in the first period secured them an early lead in their 9-1 match up against Hagerstown 12UB. Special recognition goes to Ty Yuhas for securing a hat trick.

SQUIRT UA

On Saturday, the Squirt UA team faced the Ashburn Xtreme on home ice. From the puck drop, it was a very competitive match. The Freeze held strong and secured a 2-1 victory over the Xtreme.

SQUIRT LA 

On Sunday, the Squirt LA team faced off against the Ashburn Xtreme.  The first period began with tough defense against the Xtreme. The Freeze netted the first and only goal in the first period. The second period began with the Freeze maintaining their upward momentum. Scoring first in the second, ending it ahead, 2-1. The final period belonged to the Freeze! Again, netting the first goal of the period and then finding the next again only nine seconds later! The Xtreme answered back with their first goal of the third period. The team fought hard until the very end and pulled out a much needed 5-3 victory over the Xtreme.

SQUIRT B

This past weekend the Squirt B team played league games on both Saturday and Sunday against Montgomery. Saturday, we hosted MoCo at home in what was the start of a competitive series. The Freeze scored midway through the first period, and MoCo answered with a goal of their own. Frederick scored again to keep the lead in the first period. We came out strong in the second period, scoring during a Power Play that came after a roughing call. MoCo scored late in the second period on a Power Play of their own, bringing the score to 3-2. Ultimately, the Freeze were able to score on another Power Play late in the third, and they brought home a 4-2 win!  

Sunday at Cabin John brought a hard fought 4-4 tie from eight evenhanded goals in another aggressive match up. This game was a fight through the very end. Frederick scored the only goal in the first period , but the second period was a back and forth battle, bringing the score to 3-3. MoCo scored late in the third to take the lead, but the Freeze never gave up, and they maintained control of the puck to bring in a final goal and the 4-4 tie.

MITE LA  

The Mite LA team traveled to Capital Clubhouse in Southern Maryland for a CBHL Jamboree. Facing NAVY in the first game, the Freeze struck quick, scoring two goals in their first shift on the ice. Powered by excellent passing from the entire team and hat tricks from Nicholas Chung and Jay Vivian, the game ended with an 11-1 win for the Freeze. Up next was Ashburn, and the team was looking to avenge a loss from the prior week’s jamboree. Frederick scored first, but Ashburn answered with two goals to take the lead. Frederick turned up the heat and scored the final goal to end with a 2-2 tie. The most competitive match took place in game three, against rival Bowie. Goals were traded early in the game before Frederick pulled away for the 5-3 win. The day ended with another tough match up against host SOMD. Goals were traded back and forth the entire game and it was a fight to the finish. The Freeze were pressing hard as time was winding down, but as they were putting a flurry of shots on goal, the buzzer sounded, ending the game at a 5-5 tie.

MITE B2

The B2 team had a much needed break this weekend after spending last weekend playing in Hershey at the Giant Center Arena Saturday, and then heading back home the next day for a mini jamboree!
