Freeze Weekly Update

U16

The U16’s finished their season in Raleigh. They had a tough schedule facing another UA team and two AA teams.  They finished 2-2, but they were the only team to score against the Lehigh AA team.

Bantam B

The Boys of Bantam B ventured down to Raleigh this Presidents’ Day Weekend to participate in OneHockey's Raleigh Tournament. Friday evening, the Freeze kicked things off with a game against Leigh Valley Phantoms. The Freeze dominated the game from start to finish. Freeze ended with the win, 4-0. Hats off to Goalie, Gabe Wyant for the shutout. It was a fantastic way to start off the weekend!

The Freeze headed over to the Polar Ice House to match up against a bit tougher competitor Saturday afternoon by taking on the Polar Canes Selects. This game was a real nail biter. The Freeze would score, then the Canes would score. Heading into the last couple of minutes, the game was tied 2-2. Freeze ended with the win 3-2 over the Canes.

Sunday morning came early for the Freeze. They had an early rise and shine game against the Wilmington IceHawks. As the game went on, the chippier things got. As the third period approached it’s final minute, the Freeze and IceHawks were tied 3-3.  The Freeze fought their way to the puck to put it in the empty net for a 4-3 win.

After winning all three of their round robin games, the Freeze headed to the championship game in first place. They would face off against their opponent from the previous day, the Polar Canes. The Freeze knew the Canes would bring the heat. The Canes answered first, in the first few minutes of the game. The Freeze then scored to tie 1-1. In the second period, the Canes received a Power Play. This gave them a scoring opportunity and they didn’t hesitate to put one in the back of the net. The Freeze fought to come back with seconds remaining. They had multiple shots on net, but the Canes goalie did not allow the Freeze much of an opportunity. In the end, the Freeze fell to the Canes. The Freeze came home with the Silver Medal in the Bantam Silver Division. Way to go boys!

Pee Wee B

The Pee Wee B boys opened up play in the Raleigh Presidents’ Day Tournament with a gritty rematch against local foe, the Potomac Patriots. A heroic effort by goalie David Kinnamon kept the score 0-0 at the buzzer. Friday evening, the Freeze faced the Polar Canes Select B team. The Freeze buried the Polar Canes in a 4-0 effort, where David Kinnamon earned another clean sheet between the pipes.

Saturday’s game proved challenging as the Freeze battled against a strong Lehigh Valley Phantoms. At the buzzer, Lehigh emerged victorious with a 1-0 score, subsequently ending an 11 game unbeaten streak for the Freeze.

Sunday’s game brought two familiar teams together for a battle that would send the winner to the championship game. At the end of the third period, the Capital City Vipers limited the Freeze to one goal. The Vipers solidified their spot in the championship and the Freeze will now change focus and work towards preparing for the final two games of their CBHL season.

Squirt UA

The UA Squirts headed down to Raleigh, North Carolina for the OneHockey Presidents’ Day Tournament. The boys played spectacular all weekend making it to the finals, but ultimately losing 2-1 to Atlanta in a hard fought game.

Squirt LA

Last weekend the LA team played in the Presidents’ Day Tournament in Raleigh, NC. The team knew this tournament was going to be a fight from the beginning, as they were playing up a division. The team took on the Gulf Coast Flames in their first round robin game. The Freeze gave it their all, but fell to the Flames 6-3. In the second round robin game, the Freeze took on the Polar Canes. The Freeze was unable to take control of the game and ended with a 5-0 loss. In their third game, the Freeze faced the Charlotte Rush. This game proved to be very competitive, with a lot of back and forth play. The Freeze took the lead early on, but were unable to hang on to their lead and fell to the Rush 6-4. In their final game, the LA team took on the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in what proved to be a very competitive and physical game. The game ended in a 5 -5 tie. Special recognition goes to our players of the game: Vincent Shrader, Alex Del Gandio, Aiden McDonald & Tristan Bean.

Squirt B

The Squirt B’s had an amazing weekend at the Presidents’ Day Tournament in Raleigh, NC! First up was an early morning match against the Jr. Stingrays of South Carolina. In standard Freeze fashion, the kids were a little tired from the long drive and started slow, finding themselves down 1-0 in the first 30 seconds. They fought hard, but could not overcome the Stingrays, losing 4-1. Later that evening, the Squirts regrouped to take on local foes Montgomery County. Reeling from their earlier defeat, the Squirts came out with a 8-3 win.

Next up was another early morning match, this time against local favorites the Polar Canes. Up 4-1 at the end of the first, the Squirts took their foot off the gas and found themselves on the losing end of the game with a score of 6-5. With hopes of a championship birth dim, the stars would align and the Squirts would change their destiny in a late-evening match against the Raleigh Raptors. The team needed a win and had to hold the Raptors to less than 3 goals. The Squirts roared out of the gate, relentlessly attacking the Raptors for the entire game. Led by Dom Studlo’s perfect performance in net, the Squirts secured a 8-0 win over the Raptors, earning them a chance to get revenge against the Stingrays.

Picking up where they left off, the Squirts out skated the Stingrays for the first period, opening a 3-1 lead. Unfortunately, the late night game from the previous evening took its toll as the Squirts began to run out of gas. Fighting valiantly to the final buzzer, the Squirts were on the wrong side of a 7-3 score. Nonetheless, the team had clawed their way from the bottom of the bracket to second place. Heads were high as they left Raleigh with great memories of food, fun and hockey!

Mite LA

The LA team joined several other Freeze teams this weekend at the OneHockey tournament in Raleigh, NC. They faced off against the Gulf Coast Flames of Florida in their first game, and it was tight the entire game. The team battled hard, but lost the nail biter by a score of 3-2. Next up was the Carolina Rage and the Freeze showed faces of determination. Led by excellent passing and hat tricks by Nicholas Chung and Mason Lampe, the Freeze were victorious at the sound of the buzzer, winning 8-4. Day 1 of competition was over and the team was ready to take the momentum into Day 2, which is exactly what they did. Facing the Jr Admirals of Virginia Sunday morning, the Freeze were powered by exceptional passing that allowed five different Freeze players to hit the back of the net. The team shut down the Jr Admirals and skated away victorious with a score of 8-2. Their strong play placed them as the 3rd seed in their bracket. In their playoff game, they were matched against a tough team from Charlotte and they had their work cut out for them as the Rush jumped out to a quick lead. The team fought hard the entire game, but just could not gain control and fell to the Rush by a score of 6-1. We could not be more proud of this team and the strong play each of them showed in this tournament!
