Frederick Freeze 2021-2022 Season Tryout Announcement

The Frederick Freeze are happy to announce the 2021-2022 season tryouts. This year’s tryouts will be held Monday, May 17th through Thursday, May 20th. Additional tryout slots may be added as needed.

The 2020-2021 season was one with many challenges, but the Freeze were able to have a very successful season. While adhering to COVID guidelines put forth by the CBHL, all Freeze teams had a full slate of practices and games. For the upcoming season, we’re hopeful that the pandemic will be behind us, and we can get back to utilizing extra ice slots for power skating, skills sessions and full ice practices for our teams. Last year, we acquired more ice for practices and games than in previous seasons. For the 2021-2022 season, we have acquired even more practice and game slots.

Our 8U teams will be practicing two times per week, playing weekend games, and attending multiple CBHL jamborees. In total, our 8U teams averaged 62 games played during the 2020-2021 season. All games at the 8U level will be played half ice or cross ice.

The 10U through 16U teams will be practicing two times per week with 80 minute on ice sessions. We have also reserved ice for these teams to rotate through full ice practices in August, September and February. Most 10U through 16U teams also participate in off-ice workouts as well as weekly film review. For the 2020-2021 season, Freeze teams averaged 51 games. Six of the eight Freeze teams qualified for the CBHL and/or the EJEPL playoffs. As previously mentioned, the Freeze have acquired even more ice for the upcoming season for more non-league games and/or full-ice practices.

18U will practice one time per week for 60 minutes and play a full CBHL schedule. Last season, the Freeze 18U team played 35 games and qualified for the CBHL playoffs.

We received positive feedback about the Freeze participation in the Eastern Junior Elite Prospect League (EJEPL), and we will send even more teams to the EJEPL for the upcoming season. Our highest level teams at 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U will compete. The EJEPL schedule consists of 16 games. Eight games are played in “showcases” which are two, 4 game tournaments. The remaining 8 games will be scheduled as four home games and four away games. These games typically replace non-league games.

COVID brought specific challenges to our goalie instruction in the 2020-2021 season. For the upcoming 2021-2022 season, we’ll be announcing goalie specific training that will be in addition to team practices. In addition to the goalie instruction, our head coaches will work directly with our goaltending instructors to incorporate goalie specific drills into our regular practices.

MORE practice time + MORE skill sessions + MORE goaltender focus + MORE games = INCREASED player development for our Freeze players.
